Week 10 Final Display UI & Touch Studio Visit
Post 28: Exhibition LayoutPost 29: 3-Slot Interwoven Visual System
What
  • In Week 10, as I prepared for the physical exhibition, I finalized the hardware architecture and presentation format for my installation.

I decided on a dual-screen physical setup: a primary workstation computer placed on the exhibition desk for participants to input their data, and a separate large display monitor dedicated to showing the dynamic generated outputs.

  • How
  • Dual-Screen Separation: The workstation screen hosts the intuitive input UI (Module 1 & 3), keeping input controls clean and accessible. The larger display monitor functions as the main visual canvas (Module 2), immersing the audience in the dynamic, evolving visuals.

Performance Optimization: Separating the direct interaction from the heavy graphic rendering ensures smooth frame rates and prevents lag during real-time fluid simulation and parameter calculations.

  • Reflection
Designing for a physical exhibition space requires careful consideration of spatial interaction.

Splitting input from output creates two complementary modes of engagement: a focused, intimate moment of creation at the workstation, and a shared, contemplative viewing experience in front of the main display screen.

    What
To ensure optimal rendering resolution and continuous interaction without overwhelming the display, I designed a dynamic 3-slot layout for the main screen. The screen holds three participant outputs at any given time, interweaving them through liquid displacement to physically reflect the fluid nature of shared consensus.
    How
FIFO Queue Mechanism (First-In, First-Out): As a new participant submits their drawing, the oldest image at the top gently fades out, the remaining images slide up sequentially, and the newest artwork populates the bottom slot.
Interwoven Fluid Dynamics: Rather than displaying three static, isolated boxes, I applied a continuous fluid motion layer that causes the boundaries of all three generated stains to bleed and interweave across the screen.

Fostering Dialogue: Viewers see their personal contribution alongside previous participants' expressions, directly triggering reflection and dialogue on shared anxiety.

    Reflection
This sliding, interwoven interface is the ultimate visual manifestation of "The Flux of Consensus."

By forcing individual stains to physically bleed into one another in a rolling queue, the system turns individual expressions into an ongoing visual conversation—proving that personal anxiety is never experienced in isolation, but shaped continuously within a collective environment.

Post 30: Touch Design Studio VisitStudio Visit
WhatAlongside studio progress, I attended a studio visit organized by our tutors to Touch, a renowned local brand design agency.

During the visit, we explored mature commercial case studies and engaged with professional designers in a quiet, highly creative environment.

    How
  • Community Co-Creation Case Study: The most impactful project presented was a brand identity system for a local neighborhood school. The designers handed blank sheets of paper to the schoolchildren, inviting them to draw their own vision for the school logo.

    Methodology Alignment
: Seeing a professional agency use raw, unfiltered co-creation inputs from children directly echoed my own graduation project methodology—empowering non-designers to act as co-authors of a visual system.
  • Reflection
Visiting Touch Studio validated the real-world value of participatory systems. Seeing how leading designers successfully bridge raw human input with refined visual branding gave me immense confidence in my project's direction.

True participatory design isn't just an academic theoretical experiment; it is a powerful, human-centered methodology that bridges commercial graphic design with community agency.
